The Summit County Office of Consumer Affairs was established in 2004 to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive or unconscionable consumer sales practices.  The county codified ordinances provides the Office of Consumer Affairs with authority over:

  • Unfair, deceptive or unconscionable consumer sales practices
  • Deceptive advertising
  • Returns and refunds
  • Layaway agreements
  • Motor vehicle repairs
  • Solicitors, peddlers and canvassers
  • Secondhand dealers

Summit County Charter and Codified Ordinances

Consumers also have federal and state consumer protection laws where the Federal Trade Commission and Ohio Attorney General have enforcement authority over numerous consumer laws. Please note this list is not a comprehensive list of all consumer protection laws.
